PROJECT: LIVING STORIES

STATEMENT OF
MOTIVATION:
Association of Nigerian Authors Jos, has been
instrumental towards the development and sustenance of literary cum creative
activities on the Plateau. From creating of readers clubs in secondary schools,
providing platforms for the sale of creative abilities/products to addressing
social issues and pressurizing government on the importance of education and
the nurturing of creativity. So far we have been able to establish student
chapters of ANA at the three tertiary institutions of learning mentioned below.

LIVING
STORIES is aimed at a deep reflection on the activities of creative young
people, their challenges, successes, weakness and strengths and how they can be
better. Targeted at all stakeholders in the educational, literary, artistic and
communication industry, as it relates to the everyday socio-cultural
experiences of the Nigerian youth; the events included book reading sessions,
open Mic sessions, visitation to schools (places of learning), donation to book
clubs and libraries, and an interaction/press session with key media players on
the need for increased awareness on creative abilities and its economic
significance towards better living conditions
among people.
The
submissions made at the close of the events has become part of a framework of
activity which will guide the sector towards ensuring that key interests of ANA
are propagated and achieved through the unbridled support of media persons,
communication outfits, educational institutions and government, which
is but a reflection of the vision of the present National Executive and ANA
National.
VISION:
To create, a conducive environment hinged on
literary activities, for the promotion of creative industries towards the self
sustainability of the Nigerian youth.
MISSION:
Through literary activities, to partner and
practically engage educational institutions
State-wide to trust, invest in and benefit from public education by producing lifelong learners who are
responsible, productive and engaged citizens within the global community.
ACHIEVED
AIMS OF THE PROJECT (LIVING STORIES)
1. To
invite and present physical role models in the artistic and literary world to
undergraduates and school dropouts as a source of motivation towards creative
enterprises and endeavors.
2. Collection
of living stories (documentaries, novels, short stories, plays, poetry) from
participating institutions about actual persons within the local environment
who are outstanding in their creative ventures.
3. To
identify exceptional submissions and recognize/award the institution and
individual as well.
4. Partnership
consolidation with literary minded individuals, educational institutions and
government.
5. Donation
of creative materials (books) to participants.
OUTCOMES
1. A
State of creatively motivated and inspired students, non-students, individuals,
institutions of learning and the general populace for increased literary
productivity.
2. Youth
Focus on practicable self-sustainable initiatives rather than on government
employment
3. Membership
boost within ANA Plateau and consequently ANA national
4. Literary
endowments from well meaning individuals for the sustenance of the activities
of the Association of Nigerian Authors
5. Increased
revenue from the Marketing of published material

METHOD
OF IMPLEMENTATION AND MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
Despite daunting challenges the project was
implemented through the concerted effort of the Jos ANA exco by
1. Identifying
pocket chapters of ANA in the selected institutions of learning and saddling
them with the responsibility of coordinating/hosting and sustaining the LIVING STORIES event.
2. Partnership
with online publishers, media houses (print/electronic) for publicity purposes.
3. Involving
government agencies for access to suitable facilities and extra funding.
4. Involving
other learning institutions and individuals outside of the selected three.
5. Approaching
role models in the literary and creative community.
