ANA Kogi Report - 2016 Yusuf Ali Literary Awareness Campaign


ANA KOGI REPORT 2016.







ANA KOGI has recorded quality attendance at its monthly reading sessions. It has also attracted quality membership base across the state. The Association secured the following as venues for reading/critique sessions as stated below: 

Rekiya Ogbeha’s Place, GRA, Lokoja-Guest Writer/celebrity readings.
Amusement Park Lokoja secured for monthly meeting

END OF YEAR GET TOGETHER

ANA KOGI organized an end of year get together in December 2015 to strategize for the year 2016 and to bring the members together in a more relaxed atmosphere. The get together took place at the Fragrance Spice Restaurant, Rekiya Ogbeha’s Place, GRA,Lokoja. Members were treated to sumptuous meal. The event featured poetry readings/performances, comedy and music entertainment by a guest artiste.

SPECIAL READING SESSION

The Association of Nigerian Authors, Kogi State Chapter held a Special Reading in honour of  former Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Lokoja, Professor Abdumumini Rafindadi. The event which had in attendance distinguished guests from within and outside Lokoja was used to honour the Vice-Chancellor as Patron of the Chapter and in recognition of his contributions towards the promotion of ANA activities in the state. 

ENDOWMENT OF LITERARY PRIZES

In the spirit of charity, the EXCO has collaborated with some members of ANA in the state to endow some literary prizes. This is to assist the association in sponsoring the ANA Kogi 2016 Secondary school Literary competition. The aim is to improve the culture of reading and writing among secondary school students in the state.

TEENS CLUB

ANA Kogi TEENS club has been inaugurated in Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja. It  has 50 active members. The members meet regularly to read their creative works. The association intends to visit more schools in the state to establish same.

INAUGURATION OF SUB-CHAPTER

A Sub-chapter of ANA Kogi has been inaugurated in Idah, the Eastern flank of the state by the chairman , Mrs Lola Gbogbo. The colourful ceremony which took place at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah was attended by the rector of the institution, Mr Akpata Matthew Itopa and the Deputy rector, Dr. Baba. The rector in his good will message promised to support the association.

COURTESY CALL 

As part of efforts to promote her activities in Kogi State some members of  ANA Kogi EXCO paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of Kogi State University, Ayingba Prof . Mohammed Sanni Abdulkadir. In her opening address the chairman used the opportunity to intimate the Vice-Chancellor of ANA activities in the state. She also requested for his collaboration with the association. The Vice-Chancellor commended the EXCO and promised to support the association.  A major highlight of the occasion was the presentation of member’s Creative works to the Vice- Chancellor.

ANA KOGI MAIDEN MAGAZINE

The maiden edition of ANA Kogi magazine has been officially presented to the public  at the NUJ hall, Lokoja. A patron of the association in the state, Mr Simbabi Ogbeha and other eminent guests unveiled the magazine during the finals of the ANA/YUSUF ALI Reading and Writing competition.

ANA/YUSUF ALI 2016 GRANT

In compliance with the directive of the national body of ANA and financial support from same, ANA Kogi held a highly successful   ANA/YUSUF ALI Reading and Writing competition 2016.  The finals of the competition took place at the NUJ hall on the 30th of August, 2016. James Eneojile Sunday from Kogi State University emerged the overall winner of the  competiton while Akwu Sunday from KSU and Yusuf  Shallom of kogi State Poly, Osara came 2nd and 3rd respectively. 

      Akowe Yakubu Daniel however came first in category B. Plagues and certificates were presented to 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners.  

    2016 has been an eventful year for ANA Kogi. More activities have been slated for the last quarter of the year October to December. They are; 1) Road walk in the state capital to create reading awareness and massive distribution of stickers.

2) Secondary school Literary Competition in November.
3) Teenage Writers Summit/Book fair and lastly,
4) End of year party in December.

ANA Kogi is indeed marching on triumphantly.
